I hope you all had an amazing summer! I sure did! I was so lucky to spend a lot of quality time with my family in several new and exciting locations. If you want to hear about my summer, come to my Ice-Cream Social–invite at end of newsletter! I can’t wait to hear about yours too!
Last weekend I was lucky enough to join family from all over the country in three milestone events. First, I attended a birthday party for my aunt’s boyfriend Jack, who turned 95. This is my aunt on my father’s side of the family. It was a pleasure to see Jack embracing his age, laughing with friends and enjoying life. The next day I celebrated the 100th birthday of a favorite cousin from my mother’s side of the family. Ellie is a favorite because of her warm and kind personality, her sense of humor and her spirit for life. Also, the fact that she looks more like a 65 year-old makes her a lot more relatable than someone turning 100. The next day I attended a baby shower for a cousin’s daughter-in-law expecting her first baby. The cycle of life came full circle in one weekend!
Oh, and my son moved into his very first apartment and my daughter into a sorority house.
All of this got me thinking about housing (of course) and how our needs change in the different phases of life. From a very first apartment to a new baby crib (pun intended) to assisted living and staying home or as some say, “aging in place,” although I don’t particularly like that term. We should all be living, not just staying still and aging, but that’s another subject for another day.
Each of the people I celebrated last weekend were in the various stages of those housing situations. The parents of the new baby may feel they need more space as the baby toys accumulate. The stay at home couple may get sick, although knock on wood at the moment, they do not need any in-home care, and the cousin turning 100 has just recently decided to give up her own home and is living in community with others. She seems to be enjoying this new experience so far.
Of course all the other cousins and family members who were at these celebrations are in various stages of living; whether it’s renting apartments, owning condos, single family homes, considering independent or assisted living options, considering staying home forever, or still living with their parents. Real Estate is always a great topic of conversation so whether it’s about the interest rates, which just fell a ½ of a percent (lowest in 10 months) or the inventory in the various neighborhoods, I felt so lucky to be able to share my passion for building wealth through home ownership with as many people as I was able to talk with in all stages of life. If anyone hears of anything reasonable in NYC one of my cousins is looking to rent a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment.

An Update on my New Construction Sale
They said it would be ready Sept 1. Does it look ready to you? With just a few days left, we’re all planning for extensions. Everyone always says new construction is always delayed. My optimistic self always believes they can do it, they can meet the deadlines if they really want to, but it doesn’t look promising in this case. The buyers have to organize packers, movers, stagers for their house, cars, rental properties, insurance and a million more things and I feel awful that the builders didn’t meet the promised deadline. They did paint the exterior which looks amazing, but there is still so much to complete. I very much hope by my next newsletter at the end of September, I have a closed sale and can share some very impressive photos with you!

That’s all for now. The Fall market is heating up and I am starting to have conversations with people who are reevaluating their housing situation for the coming year. If you are interested in setting up an appointment to talk, please let me know. I have time and space available for you!
Happy Labor Day Weekend!
Ellen
