When you want to relax after a long day of work, nothing sounds better than climbing into your cozy bed. It turns out that there is an easy way to make that even better for you. Add some navy blue into the mix.

Research done by the University of Sussex concluded that navy blue is deemed the most relaxing color across the world. Thousands of people were asked to pick their favorite color. They were then asked to list how certain colors made them feel and which emotion was associated with specific colors.

Research found that the “more saturated the color is, the more it is associated with excitement and stimulation.” When it comes to calmness and relaxation, blue and green are top of mind. “Relax” was the most common word used to describe navy blue.

Stephanie Pierce, director of design and trends at MasterBrand Cabinets says “nature-based colors, particularly those that are representative of water, have long been sought out as colors that tie to tranquility and relaxation. The history of navy in interiors has evolved to create a soothing feeling.” Navy blue works great in places like bedrooms as a relaxing getaway but also places of gathering. Kitchens and family spaces are a great way to integrate navy blue into your home. If you are not up for repainting, start with throw pillows or blankets to add in the hue.
